Anna Katariina
Wisakanto

Anna Katariina Wisakanto is a risks from global systems and AI safety researcher and strategist. She is a visiting scholar at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence, University of Cambridge. Her research concerns issues at the intersection of philosophy of AI, complex adaptive systems and cognitive science, with a particular emphasis on how global AI systems impact human cognitive and moral autonomy.

Her ongoing research focuses on design considerations for AI generally aligned with human values. Current projects include formalisation of a general theory of alignment by bridging the gap between AI ethics and alignment with a pragmatic approach, user dependency on general-purpose AI, and topics in evaluation and measurement of safe AI.

She has a background in philosophy, engineering physics and complex adaptive systems, and splits her time between theoretical and empirical work. When she is not engaged with academical projects she advises industry leaders on new technologies. She holds a degree in engineering physics from Chalmers University of Technology, and wrote her thesis on quantum error correction.

Anna Katariina Wisakanto is a member of the European Leadership Network (ELN), the AI safety community at the Future of Life Institute (FLI), the New European Voices on Existential Risk initiative (NEVER) and the European Network for AI Safety (ENAIS).
